Tire Log and Odometer Correction

Road Trip features a Tire Log that you can use to track your tire usage and to correct for non-standard tire and wheel sizes. You can use the Tire Log to record new tire purchases, or you can track when you switch between Winter and Summer Tires.

You can access the Tire Log by selecting More > Tires.

Vehicle Info Screen

The Tire Log displays a list of all tires you have installed. When you install a new set of tires on your vehicle you can select Install New Tires to record that installation.

Tire Log Screen

You can record the following properties with each tire installation:

  • Name (such as tire brand or style)
  • Installation date and odometer
  • Tire size and distance correction factor
  • Notes

This allows you to track how far and how long you have driven on a set of tires.

Tire Properties

Tire Size Correction Factor

Your odometer readings can be affected by tire sizes that are smaller or larger than your vehicle’s standard tires. You can set a correction factor to account these inaccuracies in your odometer readings.

Tire Size and Correction Factor

Use the following formula to determine your correction factor:

actual distance - odometer odometer = correction factor

For example:

Odometer:48.5 miles
Actual Distance:50 miles
Correction Factor:+3.09%
50-48.5 48.5 =+ 3.09%

Road Trip will apply the correction factor to all relevant statistics, including total distance, distance per day, cost per mile, and fuel efficiency.

Note that different tires can have different correction factors (e.g., Winter and Summer tires). The tire’s installation odometer determines how and when the correction factor is applied to your fuel entries.

Motorcycle Mode

If your vehicle uses different sized front and rear tires, such as a motorcycle, you can enable Road Trip’s Motorcycle Mode to track your front and rear tire usage separately. This will allow you to specify different tire sizes for your front and rear tires.

To enable Motorcycle Mode, select the “Motorcycle” switch at the bottom of the Tire Log screen. The Tire List will then divide into two sections, Front and Rear.

Summer and Winter Tires

Road Trip allows you to track your summer and winter tire usage. Each time you install a set of tires in the spring or fall you will record the date and odometer at which the tires were installed, as well as the set of tires that were installed.

When installing a new set of tires, record these as a new set of tires in Road Trip, as you would normally.

When installing a previous set of summer or winter tires, follow these steps:

  • Select Reinstall Previous Tires.
  • You’ll be presented with a list of previously-installed tires. Select the set of tires that you are installing.
  • Enter the date and odometer at which the tires were installed, then select Done to save the entry.
  • A new entry will appear in the Tires list. Each entry will display both the seasonal and accumulative age and mileage of the tires.
